New 1.5-Mile Outdoor Wireless Network Testbed Expands CCI Capabilities
The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) has unveiled a new outdoor extension to the xG Testbed running along Stroubles Creek on Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus. This massive expansion provides researchers and industry partners with unprecedented infrastructure to test, innovate, and secure next-generation mobile networks and devices.

A CCI team led by xG Testbed Director Aloizio DaSilva, alongside researchers Aditya Sathish and Asheesh Tripathi, attended the Mobile World Congress to spotlight O-RAN advancements. CCI Showcases xG Testbed on Global Stage at Mobile World Congress

As the only testbed of its type in the United States, the exhibition highlighted its unique programmability and open-source interfaces, demonstrating how CCI is leading the charge in securing 5G, next-generation mobile networks, and AI assurance.
